Venice and Verona in 2 days?
 

Hello All-

I will be in Venice for two days before heading to Florence and San G. Was just wondering if Verona would be worth a day trip? I've been to Venice before but my husband has not so we are starting there but I also wanted to visit another town/city that is less touristy?

Also, would love recommendations on where to eat in either Venice or Verona. Found some threads on Venice restaurants but most of them are not within our budget. Just want some good food for a reasonable price?

Any info would be appreciated :-)

Having just returned from 8 days in Venice, our 3rd trip, I think 2 days is not nearly enough time for both Venice & Verona.

Can you be more specific about your budget for Venice dining?

With only two days in Venice I wouldn't go to Verona. Yes, it's a nice city but it doesnt come close to Venice. I've been to Venice 5 times and still find new things to see.
By the way, Verons is touristy as well.

I spent a 4 days in Venice last year but can only spare a day on this trip since we are trying to pack it in. Heading to Tuscany for the rest of the trip then Rome.

As for budget, we're are trying to stay within 30-40 Euros pp for a meal? Some of the restaurants can get pricy although I'm sure it's worth it. Would you have any suggestions?

I agree with others that you would be well served with 2 days in Venice but I see that you want to "pack it in" and that is something I have done at times so I understand. If you would like to see Verona, think about not doing it as a day trip from Venice but to stay over in Verona and then on to Florence instead of wasting time backtracking to Venice. A hotel that I can recommend in Verona is the Hotel Torcolo which is two short blocks from the arena in a little square of its own. It is by no means fancy but very nice in a plain way, perfectly located and the ladies who run the place are a delight. Even if you do not stay at the Torcolo, the restaurant just across from it was our favorite in Verona. It is very popular with residents, a local place and not touristy with very good food. I have a TR that includes Verona that you can find by clicking on my name and scrolling through the TRs. The hotel is described in greater detail as are several other restaurants. Verona was our first stop so it would be in the beginning.

I agree with basingstoke2. Make Verona a stopover on the way to Florence. His recommendations are as good as any, since there are many choices. You will need a taxi to and from the station in Verona, since it is not in the center of town.

Whether or not you will need a taxi from the station depends on where you are staying in Verona. When we were last there for the various opera performances we stayed in a hotel which was about a 10-15 minute walk from the station and it was easily done.

I would say there isn't nearly as much to see and do in Verona as there is in Venice so a lot depends on the TYPES of activities you have in mind.

If I wanted to go to a non-touristy town, I would choose Padua, which is also much closer to Venice than is Verona.

Thank you all for your tips. It is much appreciated. I looked into Padua as well but the romantic in me really wants to see Verona, even if it is for a couple of hours LOL

We will most likely do Venice day one and then Verona for most of day 2. We are heading to Florence on Day 3, but I think we may find a way to stay and enjoy Venice for the morning/afternoon of day 3 before training to Florence.

@Basingstoke2- thank you for the hotel recommendation in Verona but our 2 nights in Venice are non-refundable. We will try the restaurant you mentioned :-)

So see Venice on Day 1 and Day 2. Then depart a=on an early train to Verona, check your luggage in the Depositi Baggagli at the train station in Verona, and spend a good part of the day exploring Verona, Get a late afternoon train from Verona to Florence that same day.
