Venice Airport Question

Hi - wondering if anyone has any info about getting to the Venice airport early in the morning? I have a 7am flight and am staying in Venice, wondering if the vaporetto and then train run regularly that early? I guess we would need to leave the hotel around 4:30-5am? Thanks so much, Mia

I've found at that time of the morning it's easiest to arrange for a private water taxi. It's expensive, yes, but you get there in 30 minutes and therefore don't have to start your journey to the airport as early as you would with taking public transportation.

I've never taken public transporation that early so I can't comment on experience, but after reading the route I'd have to take at that time of the morning, I opted for the water taxi.

Forgot to mention that the price would depend on where you begin your journey with a water taxi, but you can count on 80-100 Euro.

Also verify what time the airport actually opens and the time your airline's counter will be open. Many have shared stories about arriving the usual 1-2 hours ahead for early morning flights out of Venice, only to find the airport closed or their counter not open.

Hi miac, your might want to take a look at the SanMarco airport website which is: www.veniceairport.it.
Click on the flag for English and then check the public transport info. You will get a complete picture as to what options you have. Enjoy your time in Venice!

In 2004 we had a 7:20 flight. We caught the night vap at 4:15 to Piazzale Roma. We took a land cab from there but there were busses too. It cost us half of what water taxi would have and would have been even less had we taken the bus. We made it in an hour! The airline desks weren't even open. Check with your hotel clerk/concierge for night vap schedule. In addition to the tourists, lots of people work at the airport so cheap transportation is there!

Thanks everyone - very helpful! I think we will take the night vaporetto to the bus/cab at Piazzale Roma - looks close enough from Sant Angelo where we are staying. We shall see, will report back any (mis)adventures. Thanks again and will check that airport desk is indeed open (!)
