venice airport

Would someone out there be so kind as to give us advice on transportation from Piazza St. Marco to the Venice airport. We have a flight out in July to JFK. We have always arrived and departed Venice via train. We would appreciate any help. Thanks.

You may take the Alilaguna boat out from San Marco. It runs every hour and trip takes approx. one hour.

Paulo

Hi Marcia!!!

I did exactly what you are speaking about 2 months ago, though I was closer to the train station. You can take the vaporetto to the stop which lets you off at the parking lot for the public bus which takes you to the airport. Sorry, I don't recall the name of the vaporetto stop, though it's near the public gardens, across from the train station. The public bus is VERY inexpensive and takes about 20-30 minutes. You DON'T need to take the airport shuttle bus which is more expensive. The Venice airport is QUITE small. If you like, E-Mail me, and I'll look up the specifics for you in my guidebook which I don't have on me at this time.

Have Fun!!!
Ross. :-)

I have taken the boats that paulo refers to a couple of times. Just head down to dock(?) off San Marco Piazza and you can either buy a ticket ahead of time or when you are on the boat. It is very inexpensive and there is not need to pay for a private water taxi. The schedules are posted for departure times.

I've taken both the public bus and the airport boat. The bus is fine if you're near the bus station. But the boat makes a lot more sense if you're already at San Marco, because it leaves from there. You won't have to schlep bags from Vaporetto to long walk to the bus station. You can check on bus times when you're there and make reservations. I love flying in and out of Marco Polo airport. Much better than going through Milan or Rome.
