Venice accomodations
Hi Fodorites!
Does anyone have any recommendations for budget, yet good ,hotels/B&Bs in Venice? We will be there in October, which I think is "high season" and have so far found costs to be beyond our expectations. It is our first time there. Thanks, Geri |
Hopefully you'll get some good answers, but regarding "high season", I'm beginning to think that Venice like other places lives in high season except for two hours -- 3 to 5 AM on November 28.
Venice is unique and unfortunately you must pay for the experience. |
Whitelake--what are your expectations. What do you consider "budget"?

Whitelake: As you have found out already, October is the high season for hotel rates in Venice-rates don't go down until the first week of November.
That said, try this place: HOTEL ABBAZIA www.abbaziahotel.com 160 Euros for a standard double-fantastic place, really, wonderful personnel-an oasis of calm that is literally steps from the train station-built on the remains of a former monastery (and THIS is what I love about Venice and Italy in general-thousand year old dwellings, monasteries, convents, all SORTS of funky grand accomodation you can experience-renovated for YOU, the traveler!) Lovely peaceful little garden terrace where you can have breakfast-if I didn't do the apartment thing-this is where I'd stay. |
Whitelake, 3 of us stayed in this B&B last May for 110 Euros:
Ca'turelli -- we booked it through www.veniceby.com. Look under B&Bs. It is in Dorsoduro, small, clean and quiet. Some friends who were in Venice for their first time also stayed there about a week before us, and they thought it was a great location for their introduction to Venice... If you want to spend a little more, I really loved this charming little hotel we stayed at on a previous trip: www.casamartini.it You feel as if you are staying in the lovely apartment of a Venetian family, which is more or less what you are doing! |
We stayed at this B &B last month for 100 euros. Very lovely home and fabulous breakfast. Easy walk to the Ca D'oro vaporetto stop.
Highly recommend. |

don't know if this helps, but you might search for Ira's trip report of Italy.
He stayed in an apartment, I think, and it sounded reasonable and well-located. I'll see if I can find it and top it for you.--MP |

We paid €550 for a week in their top floor duplex suite, with breakfast on the terrace (with canal view), midway between Rialto and Piazza S. Marco. We were very happy with our stay there. |
