venice accomodation?

Hi. It is our first time to Venice in September. Does anyone have a suggestion for accomodation that is:
A) easily found , either by water taxi or walking - we will be carrying backpacks - and are arriving by train, station yet to be decided.
B) clean and affordable - around 100 to 150 Euro a night
C) somewhere right on a canal.

So far, I have checked out La Forcola Hotel and we like it - but at the high end of our budget at 150 Euro a night. Also, La Conda Barbarigo- any input on this one?
And, La Conda al Gambero - too many $$$
Thanks in advance, Colleenbee

We stayed at the Hotel Canal and Walter a year or so ago. It certainly wasn't luxurious, but it was clean and pretty inexpensive, and we enjoyed our stay. Its also located right on the Grand Canal, directly across from the Santa Lucia train station, so its easy to find, too. We stayed there in December, and the prices were well within your budget then, but I don't know what the rates are in September.

Enjoy your trip!

I liked La Forcola very much, but paid a much lower price off-season. The poster "theyoungandtherestless" recently posted about a good stay at the Barbarigo.

When you say "La conda" do you actually mean "Locanda"? That could make a difference when searching for reviews.

We stayed at Hotel Adriatico on Lista di Spagna, Cannaregio. It was so easy to find, get out of the train station, turn left and just walk straight for 5 minutes till you see it. We had backpacks too. Very very small shower but otherwise perfect.

colleenbee--since you seem to be looking for some savings, did you mean water bus when you mentioned water taxi?
