We are planning a January trip to Venice and Florence. What would you recommend for transport from the Venice airport into the city? Other tips appreciated!<BR>Thanks,<BR>Nancy Beach

Nancy, just do a search for &quot;Venice, water taxi&quot; on this board. This question is often asked. But, in short, you can take a water taxi from the airport into the city, which you would pick up outside the airport just like a regular taxi at other airports. I think there are also water shuttles that act more like buses, they may be cheaper but pick up more people and make a bunch of set stops.<BR><BR>Not sure what other tips you would like, but I loved both Venice and Florence when I went 2 years ago - you'll have a great time! I absolutely fell in love with Florence. I was only there for 3 days and would love to go back for more! <BR><BR>Karen<BR><BR>

The search for &quot;water and taxi&quot; will retrieve useful information - - even more &quot;on point&quot; might be to search &quot;alilaguna&quot; which is the middle option between water taxi (fastest, most expensive, typically just for you) and vaporetto (cheapest, slowest, least accommodating to you and your luggage - - basically a big public bus on the water).<BR><BR>All the (dozens of) threads on this subject give you a cross-section of perspectives on these three options.<BR><BR>There are also taxis and buses (with four wheels) to get you from the airport to the train station, but for most hotels, you will still need water transport for &quot;the final mile&quot;.<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex<BR>

Water taxi, although it could cost 100 Euro. Venice was my favorite place oin Italy. My only advice is to walk around and get lost.

the alilaguna will run you $10-15 euros perperson. You take a brief bus ride (similar to other airport transit buses) to the docks. The boats are worth it. You can take a water taxi but that will run you about $75 from the airport to Piazza San Marco. The alilaguna stops at Piazza San Marco, Lido, Zattare. The boatmen will even assist with your bags getting on. One more tip..pack light. It's cumbersome lugging bags on and off the boats. Have a great time!

Hi Nancy<BR>I have files on Venice and Florence; if you'd like to see them, email me.<BR><BR>You have good advice above, just choose between the Alilagua shuttle, or the taxi. The Venice airport is small.<BR>When you retrieve your luggage and approach the exit of the terminal, there will be a ticket desk for the Alilaguna, and a dispatcher for taxis.<BR>It will be helpful if you find out in advance if your hotel has its own water entrance. If it doesn't and the taxi has to let you out a little distance away, you'll not have the advantage of door to door service even with the taxi. In which case you may feel that the Alilaguna is a better bargain.<BR><BR>Which hotel have you chosen?
