Venice
I am traveling to Rome and would like to also see Venice. How fast can I get there by train and which train should I take?

Leah,

Try www.der.com

You can go into the train section and plan your own trip. It will require local names so try Venezia and Roma for the arrival and departure points.

Hope that this helps

US

The train from Rome to Venice takes about 4 1/2 hours. The web site for checking schedules is www.trenitalia.com and allows you to select english language version. There are 2 Venice stations - make sure you select Venice S.L. (which is Santa Lucia). This is the station right on the Grand Canal. The other station which is also characterized as "Venice" is in the nearby town of Mestre. It's a short 15 minute ride from Mestre to Santa Lucia, but if you're coming from Rome, I think its easier to arrive right in Venice S.L.

Even though your question has been answered, www.raileurope.com is also a useful resource for common train routes such as this. Not to be taken seriously as a good place to buy tickets though. Wait til you get to Europe.

Best wishes,

Rex
