Venice 2 rooms 2 days reasonably priced
Our family, 2 parents and a 24 and 22 year old are going to be in Venice for 2 nights before our cruise departs. We need 2 rooms (I can't find a hotel that will allow 4 to a room). Can anyone suggest reasonable and clean accomodations that are a short boat trip or walk to St.Marks Square area? If you happen to know of lodging that will allow for 4 in a room that would be appreciated as well.
Thanks in advance for your help Marlene |
If you search below you will find some posts on family rooms in hotels in Venice. (As you have found out in europe hotel rooms generally have one double bed or two twin beds - they simply aren;t large enough to hold two double bed - as you often find in the US.)
But, quite a few do have rooms for families - if you ask for them. but be sure that you're very specific about the sleeping requirements - since many of them are for a couple with children - and the two extra beds are cots or rollaways that would not be suitable for adults. Separately, if you specify what you mean by reasonable it would also help people make recos. |
Casa Sul Molo - a few steps from st marcos square. The room we had was a double bed and a foldout chairbed. Perhaps they could add a rollaway, because the room was fairly large by european standards. You might need 2 rooms though. About 100 per night per couple. each additional person extra. Perhaps negotiations are possible. I have had great rates in Seville Spain by going thru ebookers, so its worth a try for Venice.

Pensione La Calcina has apartments (besides the hotel proper) that people have posted favorably about.

Ca' Rezzonico is a great choice. Look it up on tripadvisor.com. There are pictures. Location is on a small canal in the Dorsoduro area (less touristy).

Venice is quite small and easy to walk around (though getting lost is part of the fun). I would find a hotel near St. Mark's Square too close to the tourist hordes. Better to stay elsewhere. And avoid the Rialto area also.
You don't say when you're traveling. Book your room as soon as possible. |
Marlene,
We stayed at Hotel Al Piave in May, 05 with another couple. They have a 2 bedroom, 1 bath with a small living room area for 4 people and they are close to St. Marks. Very nice. We were there with 4 other couples prior to our cruise and they met us at the boat to help with our luggage. Family run, good reviews on Trip advisor and recommended in Rick Steves guidebook. I communicated with them thru e-mail with a number of questions and they were very helpful and helped us to arrange our private water taxi from airport and to the cruise ship. www.hotelalpiave.com Good luck on your trip. |
The Foscari Palace is a very nice hotel and quite reasonable at around 370 euro a night for a double room.
The San Clemente Place might be considered even more reasonable by some people at around 470 euro--it's a 5-star. Has its own boat to get you to and from the city. And both places include breakfast and are very clean. |
No need to spend 370 euro a night for a 'reasonable' room (I would expect for that price something a little better than reasonable). We stayed at the Hotel Centauro - 5 minutes from either Rialto or St Marks - very clean and comfortable and included a good breakfast - for 88 euro a double. Would definitely stay there again. Not sure whether they have family rooms though. We found the location ideal.

amanda--I think the reasonable applied to the price and what you get to it, not to a description of the room.
If you got a Motel 6 room for 370 euro, that would not be reasonable. However, 370 euro for a room at the Foscari Palace is very reasonable. |
We stayed in Ca d'Oro in 2002, and some friends had just stayed there with 2 20 yr old nieces(4 in the room). We loved the location--in Cannnareggio, just 10 minutes walk from St. Marks, and 5 minutes from the Rialto Bridge.
The room we had was small, but elegant, and the bathroom was modern and spotless. The breakfast room served a lovely breakfast included in the rate. I would certainly stay again, and rates are very reasonable. Our room for 2 was 135 euro, but they appear to be offering some specials. Web site http://www.venicehotelcadoro.com/en/index.htm |
We stayed at the Palazzo Duodo Gregolin with 3 of us, in the "white room". If you just read the trip advisor reviews, they are very accurate. For the location, we were very happy with the price.
