VENICE - VAPORETTO TO MURANO
We are visiting Venice at the end of September and would like to spend a day wandering around Murano, Burano and Torcello. We dont fancy an organised tour so are wondering whether our 3 day Vaporetto pass will cover the trips to and between these islands.Any advice and tips from those who have done this would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi
Murano is quite close to the main part of Venice, but it is on a different boat line from the line that goes to Torcello and Burano.
The T-B boat is the #12 from Fondamente Nuove (about a 15 minute walk from San Marco). There is a much longer route
(twice as long, I believe) that leaves from San Zaccaria, near the Doge's Palace (San Marco).

this website may have the info you need on the vaporetto pass--if you find out, please be so kind as to post it here because now I'm curious too.
www.actv.it/inglese/premappa.htm

Can't recall or find right now which boat line goes to Murano. Many hotels have offers to have a water taxi take you directly from the hotel to
Murano. I've done this. The taxi is
sponsored by a particular glass factory on Murano, and they will want you to watch their demonstration and perhaps buy/order something. Realizing that was the deal, I thanked my driver when I reached Murano and I struck out on my own, to do my own browsing in the factory showrooms on Murano.
I have some more info on the lagoon islands and on buying glass in my Venice file; if you'd like to see it, email me

You have to read and decipher the schedule. Our #12 stopped at the Cemetario, Murano, two stops in Burano, and then we had to get off the boat and onto another small boat to continuue to Torcello. Other #12 go directly to Torcello. Later when I closely read the schedule I saw that the schedule is somewhat variable throughout the day and week. It takes about 45 minutes from Murano to Burano.

Hi there everyone.
Thank you all so much for your help. I went on to the ACTV website but their English version isn't up and running yet. However,I then found www.goeurope.about.com/library/venice which confirmed ticket prices etc. The Vaporetto pass is valid for trips to the islands,
Thanks,Elaine, for your kind offer. I shall definitely email you.
Happy travelling.
