Venezia & aqua alta??

My sister & I will be in Venezia 7th-18th November.
What are our chances of getting our feet wet?
Does anyone know of a web-site regarding info about aqua alta?
If we arrive in high tide... luggage??? Does anyone have any experience with this wet wonder??

Hi Bailey,

Lucky you, 11 days in Venice. I recommend at least one dinner at

"Cantinone Storico, which was recommended by more than one person on this forum. It is on a canal near the Accademia Bridge, within sound of the bells of one of the churches. Lovely atmosphere. Excellent cooking. Very good presentation. Superior service. Highly recommended".

It is unlikely that even if you arrive during acqua alta that you will have a problem keeping your luggage dry.

Under the worst conditions, have one of you stay with the luggage and the other go to your hotel to find a porter.

Surlock,
Thanks for the link!!

Ira
I've written down your restaurant sugesstion....sounds great!! Thanks!
Another friend mentioned Le Bistrot de Venise!! Have you been there?

I figured that sis could wait & I could wade....for porter!! (She's kinda in a panic about arriving in the water)
I go with the flowwwww...........
We are staying on the Riva Degli Schiavonni...around the coner from Piazza San Marco......and the water tends to rise in that area!

Hi Bailey,

Haven't been to Le Bistrot de Venise.

Tell Sis not to worry. The worst that could happen is that she would be sucked down one of the drains and pop up in the lagoon.

Good morning, Bailey
Go to www.actv.it/eng/servizi_offe.htm
This also shows the changes in vaporetto schedules in event of Acqua Alta. We were there in November of 2000. About 3 the sirens went off
announcing the start of the high tide. We had purchased rubber boots
so were comparetly safe by then the
water was about 6 inches in the Pza S. Marco and it continued to rise, by 8
the rising of water had stopped and we
had about 8-10" in the Calle XXII Marzo and 6" in the lobby of our hotel.
by 11 the water started to recede, everyting was normal the next morning
except the merchants who had left items on their floor.. Woud estimate the water over the Riova would have been about 6"... Have a good trip, we
will are returning in November for 3 days and will see if the hotel has retained out boots. Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..
