Vegetarian in Verona and Venice

My vegetarian husband will be in Verona for nearly a month. Wondering if there will be many options for him at restaurants. Are there any particular restaurants that would have good options with pasta, legumes and vegetables?

Then I'm meeting him and we're going to Venice. And the dietary restriction problem will get even more annoying because I don't eat red meat, dairy or anything deep-fried). I do eat fish, however.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Mostly every restaurant will have good options with the above. You are in Italy, the land of pasta and risotto. DW follows the same diet as you do, with the exception that she eats dairy and had no problems at all. In Verona, two restaurants we liked were The Golden Pear and our favorite is the one opposite the Hotel Torcolo - sorry I don't recall the name but it is the only restaurant there in that little square.

Not a problem. You will find less pasta, more farro, rice and polenta in the north, which doesn't mean you won't find it, just that it isn't quite as dominant. Pizza is ubiquitous and much better than 20 years ago. Mushrooms are spectacular, fish and shellfish are wonderful in Venice.

Your only real concern might be in small local places where they introduce bits of bacon or pork fat into the battuto for a vegetable dish without thinking that it is meat.

The specialty in Verona is horse and donkey meat, so you will want to learn the words for those!

Great site for all good places. Pasta Pizza Vegetariana Gnocci everywhere what my wife a veggie usually does. Aubergines grilled are a big fav there.Great salads
Ristorante Alla Zaterre to watch the cruise ships go
out to the Adriatic at sunset in Venice cheap 10-15 euro pp and wonderful food and views one of our favs in Venezia.
chowhound.com eurocheapo.com/venice good tips.
Careful in Venezia many tourist traps with high coperto(cover) and mandatory tips can add 35% on to your bill in some places. Check menus carefully go where locals go to save particularly osterias for us.

So no worries have fun!
