Any affordable under $20 vegetarian spots around?

You might try posting this question on www.chowhound.com's "international" message board. There have been a lot of Paris postings there lately.

A Google search for "Paris vegetarian restaurants" will pull up several lengthy lists. In the Côte d'Azur, you get get all sorts of delicious salads and vegetable dishes--and if you eat fish, you will find no end of possibilities.

Guenmai Mar 14th, 2005 09:41 AM

In Paris, I've eaten at Guenmai, daily, in the 6th for 20-plus years. Walk out rue Buci between Blvd. St. Germain and rue de Seine and you'll see a little street that dead ends at rue Buci...walk up that street...you can only go in one direction and it's right there...a green/white building. The owner, Sophie lives above the restaurant. The food is GREAT!Try the seitan brochettes.Plus she has the best fruit tartes that I've ever tasted. Also there's Grand Appetit over at the Cerisae bus stop on rue Cerisae near Bastille...they have incredible brown rice...among other things...and Le Bol en Bois..if it's still there on the left bank was an all time favorite...it's on rue Pascal.Happy Travels!

Have a look at this list:

Also, when I was in Paris I walked into a 5* hotel and asked the concierge for a recommendation for a veggie restaurant. She sent me someplace where I had one the best dinner I've had in 4 trips to Paris. Sorry, it's not there anymore.

By the end of our trip I'd dropped any attempt of speaking French and would ask in English "chicken or vegetarian"? on the behalf of my traveling companion. Often, those entrees were better than mine even (especially?) if they were created as off-menu items. Other than Jules Verne, I can't remember paying more than $20pp for any meal on the trip.
