VE Holiday weekend Paris

We are debating dates for our first trip to Paris in 2020. Early May works best for us, possibly arriving May 5. However, I know that May 8 is a national holiday (Victory in Europe Day) and since that date falls on a Friday (in 2020) it will be a long holiday weekend throughout Europe. I know Paris is always crowded but should we anticipate significantly greater crowds if we are there VE weekend?

Not necessarily. May 1st is an even bigger holiday in Europe and people can't run off for every 3-day weekend on the calendar.

It isn't a long holiday weekend throughout Europe. Not everyone has that day off - each country has it's own liberation dat which may or may not be a public holiday.
I doubt it will be any more crowded than normal for that weekend, despite the 75th anniversary.
