Vatican Tours

Can someone give me an idea of what the rates might be for a recent Scavi and Scala Reale ("Context")Vatican Tour? We are looking fopr a small party, 10 or less, one.

Thank you.

Hi
if you go to the Context Rome website
contextrome.com you can email them and ask about their rates if what is posted doesn't answer your question. They keep their groups to six and under I believe.

The Scavi tour email address is
[email protected]
It used to be 8 or 9 euro pp, but I don't know if that is current. Groups 10-15 people.

I was looking at this site yesterday. I am torn, we are not typically tour people but I love getting information (I usually try to easedrop on other people's tours) so is a tour the best way to go? Sorry to veer off a bit....

I have a reservation for the Scavi tour during Easter/Holy Week, and the price is 10 euro. Have a nice trip!!! Mike

barbmike, how did you get your reservation and how long did it take for them to reply. I have sent two emails (to two different but apparently correct addresses) and have heard nothing. I don't want to be a pest to them but would like to get reserations before it is too late.

Im trying to get scavi reservaions too and tried two emails also one was returned the other no reply? What to do next...

WillTravel Feb 15th, 2005 02:40 PM

How long did you wait for the second Scavi reply? It sometimes takes a few days.

The correct address to use for reservations is: [email protected]

I emailed them the date I wanted to tour in May, 2 weeks ago and it took them six days to respond back with a positive confirmation. I then faxed them my credit card information for payment and they emailed me a receipt several days later.

They stress not to email them more than one time for reservations.

I've emailed Scavi twice as well. The first got an automated response but when I didn't get anything else for 3 weeks, I shot off another one. Still nothing :( and we leave a week from Saturday!I'm starting to worry it's not going to happen.

Cross your fingers for me Fodorites. It's my fiance's #1 must see and it's not looking good.

Is there a phone number on the Vatican site for the Scavi tour? I'd try that tomorrow.

Betsy Feb 15th, 2005 07:16 PM

Count me in the Scavi never-never land too. I e-mailed on 29 January, asking a question about accessibility for one of our group who uses a walker and received a return e-mail that my request had been received. Waited and waited and heard nothing further. So on 9 February, I e-mailed a request for a visit, not making reference to accessibility or my earlier request. So far, nothing in return.

Oops! Didn't realize WillTravel had posted this info several minutes before I did. (Interrupted by a phone call as I was typing and didn't get back to read the thread before posting)

Thanks for the info WillTravel & Betsy. We did call last evening and spoke with a lovely man who spoke very little English. He told us to give it one more week. That will leave us 2days before our trip. Ahhh, you gotta love it. Best of luck with your reservations Betsy :)

Betsy Feb 16th, 2005 02:34 PM

...And thanks for keeping us updated, LisaLou. I'll wait a few more days and then phone. Received word today that our Vatican Museum and Garden tours through the Bishop's Office of the N. American College are confirmed. The College is connected with the Excavations Office in some way, so I'm hoping the Scavi folks will be able to coordinate times/dates with our already- scheduled tours.

WillTravel Feb 16th, 2005 02:54 PM

Betsy, have you obtained your airplane tickets yet?

beelady Feb 16th, 2005 04:34 PM

I read about a tour group in Rome called Icon Tours on the Slow Trav message board. It is operated by young (college age) Americans who have impressive knowledge of the history of the area. I pulled up the site, contacted them and received a timely response. I signed up for 3 tours and was given the same tour guide for all three which was really very nice as we got to know each other and it was nice to see a friendly and familiar face. I would highly recommend them. Because I was a single person, the fee was a bit hefty, 25 Euros. I believe there is a discount for larger groups. Each tour I took was longer than the time on the site indicates which I also liked as I got so much more informaion and I didn't feel like we were rushed. In any case the site is Icontours.com Hope you have a wonderful time.
