Vatican tour- booking ahead, or so I thought...

Just went online (again) to check status of booking tickets for the Vatican including the tour. Wasn't ready to commit before, now I can- for late May, a little less than a month from now.

Tickets are readily available for the admission that includes the tour of the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel, at 31eu each. But when I look for tickets for Vatican, Sistine, and St Peters, at 36eu, there is no availability until much past that- sometime in June.

Did I blow it? I assume we want the tour that includes St Peters- but why are those not available? Are they so much "better" that they sell out much faster? Do I just go with the Vatican/Sistine tour?

can you post the link?

I'm not sure why you'd have to pay any extra for st. Peter's, as entry to it is free, unless you want a guided tour of the Basilica as well. [i don't think that i knew that was available]. is that what you are booking?

I think that I would be inclined to go with the vatican/sistine option, and just do St. Peter's afterwards, by myself.

Yes, the 5eu add'l is for the tour to continue into St Peter's. Here's the link:

You then click on "Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel" or
"Vatican Museums and St Peter's".

Figured as long as we're doing a tour, why not do St Peter's too?

nvl - i put in a random date, and as you say, the two different types of tours are given at different times. so you need to decide which you want to do.

however, it is possible to continue into St. Peter's WITHOUT a guide, as I said above.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it whatever you do.

Tours can sell out, but you can rent an audio guide the the Basilica. Sorry, it's only in Italian on the link.

You can also try the Art & Faith tour which covers parts of the museum and St. Peter's.

Another option is to download (free on Itunes) Rick Steves audio tour of St. Peter's.

or just get hold of a copy of the green michelin guide to Italy, [preferably the older version without the useless hotel recommendations] or the Blue guide to Rome, and wander round in awe like the rest of us!
