There are no advance tickets for the general public.
One company recently started advertising that for a very substantial feel they can arrange private tours with no waiting, but I don't know how that works.
Most people advise getting on on line by 8 or 8:15 am. You're still waiting, but you'll be first in. Recently Rex of this message board suggested going on Wednesday around 12:30pm, before the end of the Pope's weekly audience.

Unlike most of the major Italian museums, the Vatican Museum does not sell advance tickets. It may be inconvenient, but at least you will not have to watch others sashay past you to the head of the line.

We were in Rome in June 2001. Visited the Vatican Museum on a Saturday mid morning. It was a hot humid day with lonnggggggg lines. I had my travel companions get in line and I walked up to the front of the line and found a "guide" who got us in immediately and gave us a tour. Cost $25/person plus the cost of admission.
