Vatican dress code

Are denim pants (ie: blue jeans) allowed in the Vatican?

I presume you mean the Vatican museums or basilica, not just the city? The dress code is mainly for modesty (although they don't like hats, either, which is strange for a museum), not how dressy you are or fashionable. So jeans are not barred, just sleeveless tops and miniskirts and shorts.

No bare shoulders, no bare knees - both for women and men. Jeans are acceptable unless you are invited to a diplomatic ceremony.

The stores around the square area sell leggings made especially for those who show up wearing shorts.
