Vatican, Basilica & Sistine Chapel
Looking to tour these places on a Sunday, coming in on a cruise line. Is there any opportunity to do this or because its a Sunday am I just out-of-luck?
|
Unless it is the last Sunday of the month the Vatican museum/ sistine chapel will be closed. St. Peters will be open.
|
I believe the Vatican Museum (where the Sistine Chapel is) is only open the last Sunday of every month and on this day it is free.
You can visit St Peter's Basilica on Sundays. |
I will be in Rome on the last Sunday of April and the Vatican website indicates it will be open that day (and free). Does anyone know if I can arrange for one of the Vatican tours that morning? I have been searching for a way to get more information from the Vatican site, but no luck so far. None of the private companies seem to offer tours on Sundays, and I would very much like to avoid the long lines.
Many thanks for any tips! |
Found a link to the Vatican's own tours by searching more on Fodors -- so I've answered my own question. Looks like the Vatican does not run any tours on the Sundays that they are open. On to other possibilities!

The main problem you have with this is that on the free Sunday, the museums are packed.
Is this your first trip to Rome? If so, there are many other things to do. Here is a link to an MP3 tour I put together that you might find interesting. http://www.skooltek.org/trips/rome/m...eraryThree.zip The zip file is about 20 meg in size. It is a half-day walking tour (Spanish Steps to Pantheon). Dave |
Dave that is truly a work of art, the tour that you have so beautifully assembled. Thank you so much for sharing it .... you should find a way to market it!
I've picked up so much about sites I hope to visit just listening from home. Many, many thanks. |
bookmarking, thanks!
