<About the tours with headphones mentioned here-are these pre-recorded, or is the guide speaking to people though the headphones so he/she does not have to shout?>

Kristina, During my Vatican tour, the guide was speaking to us through the headphones.

I have just read somewhere else on this site that you can now email the Vatican specifying a couple of options of dates and the names of the people who want to do the tour.

portarlington-yes, it's true you can email for tour reservations. I don't know why the email address is not on their website.
I emailed last week and heard back in less than 24 hours.
Make sure you check your SPAM box, that's where my reply ended up.
Also, the tour is now 29.5 euro (including admission), so they have not updated their site for that either.

How far in advance would you suggest e-mailing to get a spot on a Vatican tour in September? I understand it is still a busy time.
