VAT Refund with overnight stopover at London
 

Hello,
We'll be departing Europe from Munich, heading back to Canada. However, our connecting flight ticket includes a stopover in London overnight. We'll need to leave Heathrow airport and stay in a hotel until the next morning to catch the connecting flight. I just want to confirm whether this arrangement will affect our ability to claim the VAT refund at Munich airport.

What you do or don't do in the UK has no effect on what happens at MUC.

What janisj said. As I understand it, the VAT refunds are when you leave the EU. As the U.K. is no longer in the EU, your stop at Heathrow has no effect on your refund.

You will just claim your VAT refund in Munich and go on your merry way. Staying overnight in London will not affect this in any way. I just did this in November, claimed my VAT in Rome and then spent a night in London on my way home.
