VAT refund from France
 

In regards to VAT refunds, how much does one need to purchase (amount) from one store before the VAT refunds apply? And can I buy from any store (mom and pop) or only from major retailers?

Also, how do I go about getting the refunds at CDG when we leave? This is my first trip to another country...so I'm not sure to the process. Thanks all!!!!

You must spend at least 175 ª in the same store, in the same day. Food, wine, and tobacco don’t count. The refund will amount to between 13% and 16%. The refund is granted only on
purchases you are carrying home with you.
The department stores and most stores that are used to dealing with American tourists can assist you with this. The store will fill out an export document, a triplicate form. You’ll also be given a stamped envelope addressed to the store. Go to the airport or train station early, in case there’s a line at the Detaxe counter. You will need to present your passport, and may be asked to show your plane/train ticket as well as the merchandise itself, so don’t pack it in your checked luggage. The French Detaxe official will
stamp your form. Detach the pink copy, insert it into the envelope, and mail it in a mailbox in the airport or train station. Or mail it airmail after you get home. Keep the green copy as your receipt. Some people have said they never get their refunds; I do (so far).

what is a good french store that will help us non-french speaking tourist fill out the form and not have us ask for and struggle to get it right?

ira has good suggestions, but many many small shops in Paris are used to dealing with the detaxe forms for tourists, and are willing to do the paperwork for substantial purchases
