VAT on AirB&B rentals in Paris
Hi
I am thinking about purchasing a small flat in Paris and putting it on rent via AirB&B. Could any landlords who are doing this give some guidance how to do handle the taxes - VAT etc - preferably respecting the laws. |
I would double check that this is allowed by the building you buy in (I know in NYC it is a standard part of owner's leases that they cannot sublet short-term).

If you do an internet search you will find lots of information about letting holiday homes in France, and the financial side of things.
However to be absolutely sure you are meeting all the legal requirements I suggest you contact the appropriate authorities in Paris, before committing yourself to purchase. nytraveller also makes a valid point. There could be a clause in your contract which forbids short term letting. |
I would be very careful about purchasing property in Paris just for short term rental. Many deeds restrict renting apartments and there are laws in place about exactly what properties can be rented and the processes involved. There is also a very serious movement afoot to eliminate short term rentals as many apartments in Paris sit vacant while there is an overall housing shortage.

Thanks for all these responses.
It would be great if I good get comments from someone who has a first hand experience in letting their flat in PARIS via AirB&B. (I would not live in the flat myself). |
Then you need financial/law/tax advice please talk some one or a group who have inside knowledge on these things in France. VAT laws in Europe vary between each country and tax issues area specialist subject. You should worry about more than just TVA (VAT).
Get it wrong you could face a hefty fine. |
VAT is the least of your worries. More important is property tax, residency tax, street sweeping tax, audiovisual tax, etc. Do you really know nothing about taxation in France?
|
not sure that a travel forum is necessarily the best place to be looking for advice on buying rental property in Paris, or indeed anywhere else.
|
Posting obscure taxation questions on a travel site is only done by the terminally naive or by a troll.
