VAT

Ok I'm a little confused about VAT refunds. Since I will be carrying cash in london to eat and to go out at night, but I will be using CC for shopping. What I wanted to know is how does one get a VAT refund. I am not sure how to go about that. Do I do that at the airport or the store?

For restaurants and going out at night you do not get a VAT at all...

I mean no VAT refund.

You can only get a VAT refund for things you take out of the country - ie shopping - you can't get a refund of VAT on hotel, restaurant, medical or travel.

Hi V,

You must spend about 150GBP in one store on goods that you will take home with you.

You will be given a form from the shop. You give the form to Customs at your departing airport.

You must be able to show the goods for inspection, if asked.

And that can present a problem with some of the carry-on restrictions because the VAT refund place is AFTER you have checked your bags, unless they have now moved it since the recent problems.
