Varenna to Menaggio Water Taxi
Could anyone advise on how to get from Varenna to Menaggio in the evening when the ferries have finished? Is it possible to hire a water taxi and how much might it cost?

I have no idea of cost but here goes: Barendelli and Taxi Boat (both are in/from Bellagio). There is hire boat that docks at Menaggio, roughly 30 foot and high performance (can't remember the name/ contact info).
If you just want to do this one time, then I think that there is a boat on Saturday night (only Saturday night) that does the Varenna, Menaggio, Bellagio loop to get people home (about 11:00-11:30pm). Check with the lake boat service.
This is a great question to ask your hotel or apartment landlord. Also, you might taxi to one of the towns on the west side of the lake (there is no shortage of restaurant choices). They actually have a kitschy little tram that runs Menaggio to Tremezzo - euro 12 per person I think.
