I was expecting you to continue with the Visigoths and the Huns.

Has to be hippies.

Such attacks are a shame, but this is not the first time vandals have gone after "The Stones." The previous time I know of was mostly defacing with lipstick which came off with solvent. This time the report sounds like the rascals were out to take home chunks of rock as a trophy.

I first visited the site in 1956 and was able to get up close and personal with it. I went back in 1975 and was able to do the same thing. I still have the slides and pictures from those valuable moments.

I heard on a report today of this incident that it wasn't that long ago that tour guides used to hand out hammers and chisels to their tour groups, inviting them to take a piece of the rock with them!

I have very vivid memories (and long buried pictures) of my first trip to Europe in 1971 when we went to Stonehenge and wandered freely around the site, scrambling up the rocks and posing for photos. We didn't even take any souvenirs!

Who knew European tourists were so rude and uncaring?

I used to go to the Stonehenge free festivals. Believe me, those stones have seen EVERYTHING under the sun.

chol
Is there a rebellious streak in your past?

I was there too, right up to just before the Battle of the Beanfield.

Fond memories of Hawkwind, hot-knife fendors, the Cokoloco and being chased across fields by flaming snooker balls...Lucy in the Sky......

We were probably there at the same time with the same group of people:

Monty, Bod, Shonky, Lou, Milky, Chidge, Cainey, Oirish Sam, the Quinn brothers.

All a bit of a haze really.
