Buy all your tickets online to avoid standing in line.

The evening canal boat rides are nice, with all the lights on the bridges. If you're not a club/bar person this might be a great way to spend the evening and free up some daytime to do other things.

You need a lot more than an hour between going into the Anne Frank house and the van Gogh museum.
You need to buy your tickets for the Van Gogh ahead of time online on a timed entry basis due to the extra exhibition. Have a look at http://www3.vangoghmuseum.nl/vgm/index.jsp The museum is open until 10 pm on Saturday so 5 pm would be fine - it would give you lots of time there, though it may be crowded. Generally it is better to go as early as you can - maybe go to the Van Gogh for 10 am Sunday and go to Anne Frank house later in the day or on Saturday as it is open until 9pm. Buy tickets for that in advance to to avoid the queues. http://www.annefrank.org/content.asp?pid=1&lid=2 |
Sounds good 10am for Van Gogh and 2pm for Anne Frank House, later night canal cruise. Our cruise company gives us a boat tour of City on Friday so we should have most of the sites covered. WE like markets so Saturday will be our market day. Thanks all Any other recommendations??

After seeing the Anne Frank house, a canal cruise would be a good break. The Anne Frank house will make you sad, no doubt. Maybe see it one day and the Van Gogh museum the next.

I can only hope that the Anne Frank house does not affect me more that the Vad Vashem memorial in Jerusalem did, sad was not the word
We planted 200 trees in Israel after that visit and we ask our church group to add the name to their weekly prayer lis. |
Everyone reacts differently, but for me the Anne Frank house was not even close to the deep reaction I had at Yad Vashem.
On the other hand, there's something to be said for having insight into an individual's experience and fate, as opposed to the millions who may not seem as familiar or identifiable. Both are certainly important visits. |
Seeing either the Van Gogh Museum or the Anne frank House will take you more than one hour each. They are both moving!! The Van Gogh Museum itself is at least 3 hours in my opinion, and I have been there twice. The Anne Frank House deserves the reverence of at least 1&1/2 hours or more to really appreciate it.

You saw the photographs tacked to the walls and the piles of glasses and shoe. Somehow this made it amm a very personal expenience for me. |
