validating tickets
We leave for Europe in 2 weeks. We have bought in advance our eurail selectpass saver for 5 countries. We have also purchased advance reservations including seat reservations for those trains requiring reservations (Thalys, TGV, and Eurostar Italia) we have these "supplements" in hand. What exactly do we validate besides the eurailpass before we first use it. Do we punch our supplement tickets/reservations in the yellow machines I've read about? Do we just get on the train for all other segments for which we do not have reservations and show our eurail pass? We will be traveling in Benelux, France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi marni,
For those trains that do not require reservations you just show your railpass to the conductor. Since you already have your seat reservations, you need to show them to the conductor along with your railpass. Just remember to have your pass validated before you get on your first train. |
Similiar question:We bought the Eurail saver Flexipass for 10 day/2 months. We validate at station before our first trip and then..Do we write in date of travel when we want to use it? Can we make more than one trip on that day. Say get off...sightsee...get back on? If we use for Rhine cruise can we use the rest of the day? Thanks for help..

Biggy47, you have it right. Validate at the first station, then write in each date of travel before boarding the first train each day. Be sure to follow the instructions very carefully. If you write in the wrong date, then you lose the day of travel. Any attempt to erase or alter a date is considered forgery. And you can ride as many trains as you wish all day long.

T_M has it right.
Don't write in the date of use until you actually see the train in the station. Friends of ours knew their exact itinerary and wrote in all of the dates one evening. There was a train strike one day and they lost that day. |
Thanks, y'all are the best travel agents ever.
