Valentano, Italy - Does anyone know???

Hi,

I may be visiting Valentano Italy with my boyfriend in the next month or so. He has relatives there. I can not find much info on this town/village and was wondering if any Italy experts can give me any kind of info regarding the area. Such as, what is close/nearby to visit??? Am I stuck out in the middle of nowhere. Are there trains around there in case I want to take off for a day or two??? I have been to Italy a few years ago on a whirlwind tour of Rome, Florence and Venice. So I saw all the touristy stuff already. I am the type that enjoys exploring around, so if any suggestions from you out there in Fodors Land, I would much appreciate it..... Thank you!!!!

Valentano is in Umbria on the western side of Lago di Bolsena, not far from Orvieto.

I think if you go to Trenitalia and put Valentano in the where from search bar and then maybe Roma (as an example) in the where to bar you will be able to determine if there is a train station there.

I believe you have to write the city names in Italian with correct spelling in order to make it work. You may also find some stuff by googling:

getting to valentano

I stayed in a small town in Lazio a few years ago and was able to find info in that way.

I am also sure that if you look for the town on a map you will be able to find what is nearby. If anything nearby looks interesting you can do more googling. Get a guidebook that features the region.

I imagine the relatives will be able to help you once you get there.

I've never been there, but I googled the town and it looks like the location will provide plenty to explore on day trips. A car would be best. They may have bus service but I don't think they have trains.

I believe it is in Lazio, not Umbria. But it is located near the border of Tuscany and Umbria. Start by googling and then pick up a guidebook or two that include details on the provence of Grosseto (in Tuscany), Lazio and perhaps Umbria.

I think visits to Pitiglano, Sorano, Orvieto, Lake Bolseno, and even the coast will provide you with plenty to keep you entertained. It is in a very nice area.

I checked in Google Earth and looked at the dimensional view. Valenatno looks to be up on a hill overlooking the lake--picturesque.
For a town like that, there may be daily buses, but they may be infrequent and match the need to commute to work, school, or markets at certain times of day. Your best options will require a car.

Zoecat,I couldn't quite get the border, Lazio or Umbria. I saw that little bus symbol as well.

I think you will need a car.

The Italian Tourist Board doesn't have much info about it. It's in Lazio in the Province of Viterbo so you should have lots of Etruscan ruins around. I've wanted to visit Tuscania (where some of the 1969 Romeo and Juliet filmed) which is in the area, but there isn't easy transportation.
