Vaccine
I haven't read much about if you have been vaccinated are you going to have to prove a negative test. I know this sounds silly but I haven't seen anything?

It doesn't sound silly to me, I'm wondering the same thing. I suspect the answer is "it depends," where, when.

No country has yet rolled out Covid-19 vaccination certificate as documentary proof for travel and other purposes. So until it's rolled out and internationally recognised, you still have to show negative test result where required.

It doesn’t sound silly to me either, and I’ve been doing some reading on the subject. Apparently it’s still possible to spread the virus even after you have been vaccinated, so I’m afraid masks and negative tests will be with us a while longer. Beginning Jan. 26, all travelers to the US, including US citizens, will need to present a negative COVID-19 test within 3 calendar days of the return trip or or proof of recovery from COVID. How long that will be in force is anyone’s guess, but for now, plans for travel will need to include getting tested.

Yes I also read that you still might be a carrier even though you have your shots. With that in mind a trip in June would be very aggressive. I guess the Christmas Markets would be more likely. So many things need to happen before we get on those big planes in the sky.

And don’t forget that the destinations that we want to visit also need to be vaccinating! So spring 2021 is not realistic and the fall is still very much an unknown.

So far teh EU has said that they will not be issuing a vaccine passport until more people have been vaccinated. That will take a good few months. That of course will only apply to EU citizens and residents.
There is no indication yet of the EU accepting any other proof of vaccination, and all non essential travel from non EU countries is still banned for the foreseeable future. British citizens, even with a negative test result have been turned back from Europe as they are no longer EU citizens and their holidays don't count as essential travel. Same with some US citizens at Schiphol recently. I would not plan on any trip to or through the EU/EEEA/Schengen area until the autumn at the earliest. |
It doesn't make any sense to me to wonder that. Those are two different things. Even if you have been vaccinated, it doesn't mean it is impossible to get it again. Some of those Indian or Chinese ones are only about 50 pct effective, as I recall. And even the better ones are only 95 pct effective. And on top of that, they don't know for sure yet if it means you can still infect others even if you yourself don't get very sick or not.
Aside from that, the US vaccine passports have no official authorization to them. I have one of the WHO yellow vaccine card "passports" already, just as a way to keep track of my vaccines. I often write them on there myself. Even the "official" ones were just some primitive stamps from a provider. Now I suppose there could be a bogus market in fake coronavirus test result findings now, that might be easy to fake, also, of course. |
Until there are a whole bunch of people who have been vaccinated and are studied the entire subject is filled with conjecture INCLUDING what will and will not happen to people who are vaccinated. As to travel, I wonder of all those venues which have events scheduled are reading this about 'waiting until the Fall" and things being not possible, and on and on.

The yellow WHO vaccination passport is the usual document people use over here to keep track of their vaccinations.
Each vaccine you get comes with a tiny sticker stating vaccine, brand name and batch number that goes on the proper page of the passport with date and stamp/signature of the doctor's office. So you (or your doctor) know when the next shots are due. But also in case something is wrong with just a certain batch, you can check if you are affected or not. So while everything can be faked, it's not that easy that everyone could just fill it out by themselves. Well, you can, but then it's no valid proof if the stickers are missing. It's an official document you need if you travel to/from regions affected by yellow fever - probably not the most popular holiday destinations. Currently, there is quite a discussion going on here if this passport (with the proper Covid19 vaccination stickers) should give you more freedoms in 2021, e.g. to fly, to stay in hotels or resorts, visit museums or movie theaters, etc. So far, there are no decisions being made, and there is also strong opposition to these ideas. While it may not materialize as mandated by governments or health authorities, it could as well be that businesses from airlines to restaurants ask for proof, though. At least in Europe and not even within the Union, there is no uniform strategy. Italy may ask for proof of vaccination to enter museums (or not), France may make it mandatory for public transport (or not), and Spain may require it at the most crowded beaches (or not). But since that "passport" costs only a few euros or dollars, I guess it cannot hurt to have proper documentation of your vaccination if you plan to travel in 2021. |
