Vacation Rental Warning - Roncolato

The "Azienda Roncolato" has a large vacation rental near Soave in Verona Province.

AVOID IT!

They also have six bed and breakfast rooms on the home wine estate which may fine for all I know.

You wouldn't mind explaining why, would you?

I agree with Ira. Telling people to avoid something without an explanation isn't really fair. Something that bothers you, may not bother others.

The rental is separate from the main estate and is one of 5 flats in a large Italian farm structure, probably meant as employee housing.

It has no exterior pic on their web site. The only exteriors are of the main estate which is beautifully landscaped with pool.

It was represented as a "detached building" but it contiguous with what seems to be a rental, two disoccupied flats, and one occupied by a worker.

In fact, the Roncolato family owns only the flat, not the property or building.

The yard features the drive, derelict farm buildings, sheets of corrugated iron, and a wrecked car.

The view is superb but a small terrace in front of the rental was denied us by the renters who claimed it did not "go with" the rental.

The flat itself is fine, perhaps very basic, but not a hellhole. The AC promised was not in place nor was any kind of air-moving device during our mid-June stay. Remember the heat wave?

Shortly after we voiced a few mild questions, the nearby cafe and restaurant people began to heap stories on us about others who had arrived, looked, and fled. I finally had to chase down the only English-speaker in the Roncolato family -- they knew the jig was up -- in order to terminate the rental.

Like I say, down on the estate proper where the pool sits awaiting and the flowers climb the trellises, there are 6 B&B rooms that could be very nice.

We zoomed down the road to "Libero," a lovely restoration in the middle of the vineyards. The Soave area is very nice and is ideal for side-trips to the cities other sights from Venice or Bassano over to the Lakes.

Now I understand why you posted what you did. Thanks for the clarification.

I had not plannned to post if the Roncolato family took down their misleading web info -- but they have not.

I was planning on a "Trip Report" with pictures over at Slow Trav but we had a "divergence of the minds" over some other issues and I guess that means they won't put up the web page on the Roncolato Situation I designed for them.

Neither have they put up my tutorial for navigating the EXCELLENT (but a trifle counter-intuitive) Michelin planning site.

I tried sending in kitty pictures but to no avail. All my work is "trabajo-non-grata."
