A prioritized list of things to do and see is really a kind of itinerary, if you think about it.

I love the planning and the searching for my next trip, and creating a rough schedule of activities. I normally plan my mornings around a museum or historical site, etc., and leave my afternoons free. Maybe I'll be motivated to visit a few more places, but more often than not I just absorb the atmosphere. I like to know my hotel arrangements in advance, but totally wing it when it comes to restaurants.

I think a lot of people that have scheduled themselves into a frenzy either will do just fine (that's their personality) or come back home disappointed. Either they never return, basing all their experiences on that one miserable vacation, or they learn that on the next trip to spend more time in fewer places.

I tend to think that the newbie travelers posting here are the ones creating nearly impossible schedules. They lack the experience of more widely traveled posters. People that have the travel addiction seem to automatically plan their trips with the "I shall return" mentality. Those that don't, (have the addiction) pack everything into one trip and can say they've seen it, and never go again.
