We spent 4 days in Prague in July and were upset to see the forecast of rain for out entire visit. In fact, we had very little rain, just a few short bursts on a couple of days. The rest of the time was nice weather.

Callalilli - When I read that you wanted to hear about great rainy vacation stories, I started cracking up because I realized that it has rained on EVERY trip that I've taken - and that most of my "souvenirs" are the result of those rainy days. Here's yet another wordy reply from Magellan:

1) Ireland last May - it not only poured but I froze my butt off! I recall vividly a day when I went to find the former home of Oscar Wilde - I was so cold I was literally shaking, and I had mascara running down my face from the wind and rain. Yes, I looked slightly crazed, and school-children ran away crying as I walked by. I bought a beautiful scarf and a sweatshirt to keep dry on that trip.

2) When I arrived in Rome in September it was pouring - and I'm talking like when you see those old black and white seafaring movies about some wily Captain and his renegade crew fighting to keep their ship afloat - and it looks like someone off camera is throwing buckets of water on the ship. I have a little red umbrella from Rome that's still bent in half from a particularly wild but wonderful day on the Spanish Steps.

3) When I went to Spain this May, it rained for the entire first week I was there - after one particularly soggy day in Madrid, I just gave up and ended up drunk on sangria at the hotel cafe. I have a nice little blue umbrella that I not only used to keep dry, but also to stop me from falling over as stumbled back to my room.

4) Scotland, England, Wales - well, that was a total wash (pun intended). I was soaked the entire time, but happy as a clam nonetheless. The clothes in my so-called "waterproof" backback were sopping wet, and I had to go buy a pair of pants and a sweater, and then sat shivering in the hostel pub. I ended up with bronchitis and tonsillitis on that trip, but given all the friends I made that night, it was SO worth it.

5) Paris - soaked in Versailles. But a sexy Parisian man told me I looked beautiful, and asked if he could buy me dinner as a result. :D Score one for the rain!

Hmmm, as I read this, I'm beginning to feel like that cartoon character that walks around with a big old rain cloud over his head! LOL

Magellan-- thanks for such great stories.. sounded like you were really enjoying the memories. i had a wonderous and freezing rainy time in Ireland a few years ago, and learned a Danish dance in the pouring rain in Poland this past May. i'm very excited about my trip.. and will possibly post a trip report, tho i am planning on a very low-key week. we'll see what comes our way....

I have enjoyed an amazing thunder storm in South Africa in Jeffeys Bay, I could see lightning's from Algoa bay (Port Elisabeth) to Cape St Francis.

Hi suze - Believe me, you're not the first one to say that! LOL :) too funny!

Hi! just a quick update.. got back day before yesterday, and out of the 7 days, we had about 1 hour of rain! and i got to use my new umbrella!! so much for the 10day forecast.. i will post a trip report this weekend.. it was a great trip.

We are from So. California, any vacation that includes rain is just dandy with us. :)

Here in Boston. I rains all of spring so we never get to enjoy the spring blooming trees but when in France it becomes exciting, stopping in an unknown place for lunch or drink to use the toilette. :)

Of course ther eis rain and there is RAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNN.

The first is fine with my unless it's a beach vacation, then i'ts a bummer of course. The other kind, when you feel like a character in a jungle drama -- well, it can be fun to take in a movie, or shop. If it's really raining all day, just go out at night and stay up late clubbing or finding some live music. Whatever it takes to forget le deluge.

I'm in UK and also never use an umbrella - I hate having one hand tied up all the time. I just get wet/wear a hat. Doesn't kill me.

I live by the old amyb proverb: A rainy day in <insert your destination here> is still better than your best day at work.

nona1~ I believe Seattle and much of the UK has similar weather? probably why we share the umbrella-phobia.
