Vacation in Rome, Florence & Venice
Hi,
I will be spending a week in Rome, after which I'm thinking of taking a train (Eurostar?) to Florence for 4 days. And then moving on to Venice for 4 days. Would 4 days in Florence and another 4 days in Venice be too much? Should I spend 3 days in each place and thus creating 2 more days for maybe Verona/Orvieto?? Need help/advice. |
Hi pb
You have it just right. I would take a day away from Rome and add it to Florence for a day trip to Siena, but I like Florence more than Rome. You can take an ES* or an IC, but the ES* is more reliable. No need to pay for 1 cl. |
Ira, "you like Florence more than Rome", you could have Fooled Me. By the way, when are you running for Mayor of Florence?
|
I'd keep the schedule the way you have it. You can always take a day trip from Florence or Venice (or both). And, while in Rome, you certainly have enough time for a side trip to Pompeii.
|
>..when are you running for Mayor of Florence?<
When the Medicis return. |
You have an excellent trip there, pussinboots. No real reason to change it. But...
You could possible subtract a day from each destination and have a 3-day stay on Lake Como (which is accessible from Venice). This only makes sense if the weather is warm...when are you going? |
Pussinboots,
It sounds like this is your first trip. A week in Roma is my next plan, 2 days there the first time wasn't nearly enough! My personal preference is to combine cities with a little countryside. It gives you a more balanced impression of the country. Plus the countryside, small towns are so wonderful! Here's my recommendation, cut 1 day from Rome and 1 day from Florence. Train to Orvieto and spend the day and overnight. It's magic in the evening. Pick up a car in Orvieto and drive through Umbria/Tuscany. Then maybe spend a night in Siena or a smaller place. Drop car and train into Florence. Or, take the lake option mentioned above. You can't loose, it's all wonderful! Buon viaggio! |
Ira, I'll be there in 10 days as I'll look around to see if the Medicis have returned or if they are their way. Mike
