My husband and I are planning to visit the following places in October : London (3 nights), Florence (3 nights), Venice (3 nights) ,Innsbruck (3 nights), Paris ( 3 nights)and back to London. Please advise on hotels ( 3+ or 4*),transport(which planes etc and how much time it takes.I would prefer to travel by air from London to Florence,then by train (day) from Florence to Venice, by train (day) from Venice to Innsbruck , by air from Innsbruck to Paris from Paris back to London by Eurostar.

1. Five cities in 15 days is doable, but is rather hectic.

As noted, you will lose at least 1/2 day each time you change hotels.

2. Wouldn't it be better to fly into London and out of Paris?

Since your trip, no matter where you go, is only about two months away, I would suggest that you decide on your flights, coming and going, and make your reservations ASAP.

Also hotels of choice in major cities such as Paris, London, Venice, Florence, are hard to reserve on such short notice.

Book hotels for whereever you will be spending your first nights and then for London and and Paris now, and then plan the rest of your agenda in detail.

To gain some time, how about initially flying from your home to Florence or Venice on a connecting flight from Rome or wherever, visit the other cities, fly to Paris from your last place visited, stay 3 days, then go to London for your last 3 days, and fly home from there.
As for hotels, search the board and also go to a large book store such as Borders or Barnes &amp; Noble. Drink a coffee and see which books have the kind of information that best suit your budget, needs etc.

I am not trying to sound mean, but you are leaving the entire trip plan up to the board. Come back and ask for individual city hotel recommendations, along with what you are willing to pay and what you expect to get.
