Uzes and Perigueux

Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations for either Uzes or Perigueux and their surrounding areas?
Many thanks for any help.

If you have a car you can go a few miles west of Uzes to the Chateau d'Arpaillargues and dine in the forecourt of this village chateau. There is also a little main-street place in that village, called Restaurant la Jasse -- perfectly adequate, indeed quite superior by N.A. small town standards.

In Uzes itself, we tried two places, both in the centre of town:

Les Fontaines -- interior courtyard, (fairly soigne but no chi-chi)Nice/ fancy cooking e.g. their noisettes of veal cooked with wild thyme and a duo of souffles -- coriander and anis...

Bistrot de Grezac, right on the perimeter walls of the old town. Recommended by our hosts, we had resisted it because it looked too simple, even touristy. How wrong we were. We took the 20 E menu with a bottle of Chateau de Bastet rose. I had -- and this sounds heavy but it was heavenly -- the following blow-out dinner:
1. seafood platter -- 6 oysters, 6 mussels, 4 clams, 2 large ecrevisses, white langoustine, 18 winkles and 6 snails
2. duck magret with cherries, with carrots, tortolini, curried cabbage and snow peas with lardons
3. very rich mousse au chocolat

Chateau d'Arpaillargues was highly recommended to us by several people, but alas, we did not dine there.

Myou, Provencale food, near St. Etienne

Au Fil d'Eau, seafood, just off the Place des Herbes.

Try Hercule Poireau and Le Saint Front in Périgueux.

We spent a week in Uzes last month (June 15 - 22) and our hands down favorite restaurant for quality of food, atmosphere and service was Les Trois Salons at 18 rue du Docteur Blanchard (04 66 22 57 34). If you want a bit of a splurge, try their tasting menu which changes each week. It's inventive and delicious.

We too had heard raves about the restaurant Le Marie d'Agoult at the Chateau d'Arpaillargues and made reservations there for Sunday lunch. I don't know whether our expectation level was too high or not, but we were a bit disappointed. We certainly enjoyed the experience. The setting is lovely, and the service and food were fine - just not exceptional in our view.
