Uyan Hotel, Istanbul
Has anyone stayed at this Hotel? I looked and read some good posts and agree that the rooms really look nice, large and comfortable.
It was down to them or the Seven Hills -- any feedback?
Thanks. ccc

I've been scouring the web for an Istanbul room and based on what I've seen this looks OK, but can't offer first hand report. Note that the lower rates are for "small" rooms and don't qualify for the airport pickup service. The virtual tour wasn't functioning when I visited the site. One thing different from most of the others is that they post only a rack rate, no discount (except for cash payment.) I've read in several guides that one should never pay the rack rate; virtually all the hotels in Istanbul seem to be discounted one place or another. I eventually found my reservation through www.gtahotels.com, though there are several other sites. Try googling something like "discount Uyan hotel"

Sure, Barb, glad to share with the group-
Going late May. Thanks to tireless efforts of a CO OnePass agent, got an open jaw FF ticket in first class into AMS and out of CDG. Will have time in Paris to cap off the trip, run by Monoprix or Price Leader to stock up on shampoo and cookies, have dinner at Co!) Used the ITA software at (http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/) to look for connecting flights. Booked on Austrian Airlines (www.aua.com) AMS-IST-CDG for about USD425. Originally wanted to stay in Sultanahmet, but my choice (Ambassador hotel) could not accommodate my dates (the European football finals will be going on.) Looked at a gazillion (OK, an exaggeration, but not a large one, as longtime Fodorites will recognize) sites for hotels, wound up booking through www.gtahotels.com. Hotel Grand Star in Taksim, a 4 star, sea view room with breakfast and RT airport transfer for just under USD400 for 7 nights. Chose it based on the recommendation of a friend from Istanbul who said it is a good location and a great bargain. Still need to get trip insurance from www.insuremytrip.com, otherwise now it's just a matter of focusing on the real world (family, job, home, etc.) until depature...

We stayed at the Uyan Hotel last June. We were there for a wedding and the bride knew the Uyan family, so we got a pretty good rate. We enjoyed our stay there. We had two different rooms, and the first had a huge bathtub. Both rooms had air conditioning, nice wood floors and decor, etc. I loved the rooftop terrace for breakfast - great view of the Sea of Marmara, the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. The location is great - super close to all sights. I'd recommend it.

Hi Jeanie.
Thanks for your positive reply.
I am booked for a standard room with the promise of a balcony. Did you see or stay in one of those rooms?
It was between the Uyan or Seven Hills.
I think the rooms look bigger at Uyan. Any thoughts?
Also, how was their breakfast foods? They also pick up from the airport one way -- that was a plus for me.
Thanks. ccc
