Using the Museum pass at Versailles
 

I know that the Museum Pass is taken at Versailles. What does the pass cover? Can you just pay the difference to see the entire property? Thanks for any assistance.

I wrote Museum Pass recently to ask about this question:

"The pass gives you access to the museums' permanent collections.
For you to visit the exhibitions you are supposed to purchase a ticket at the museum.
Concerning Versailles, you can see the 'Château', the 'Grand et Petit Trianon'.
There is an extra charge for the State Apartements, for the King's Chamber and for the gardens during the water show."

However, it's still unclear to me what the person who wrote this meant by the State Apartments.

If your main reason for getting the pass is Versailles, look into the Fortait Loisir option suggested by Robespierre in a separate thread (click on my name to find it -- it's called Versailles Tours or something).

That basically gives you a one-day pass to everything at Versailles and covers the RER fare to and from Paris.

If you're looking to see a lot at Versailles, it's probably still worth your while to get this pass. But if you're not and will be using the Museum Pass for other things, it's certainly possible to pay extra for the other things not covered by the pass.

And don't neglect the town of Versailles itself - its neat old-world wrought-iron market in the town square and a really neat old part of town south of the chateau from gates (near the RER C station terminus) - lots of impressive old edifices from the time when the court was here - embassies, etc. Something to do with Ben Franklin i think - but a neat area - the tourist office just near the RER C station has a walking tour of this often overlooked part of town.

I believe the Pass covers the same items as an 8€ Palace ticket, which does not include the King's and Queen's chamber (from http://www.chateauversailles.fr/en/):

Palace (State Apartments, Museum of the History of France, Coach Museum)

Pass includes Trianons.
