Using the Britrail London Plus Pass
 

I will be traveling by train at least 7 days during my trip to Southern England. I did a point-to-point ticket price comparision with the 15 day standard class fare for the Britrail London Plus Pass and the pass is a good alternative,

However, no matter how much I search, I can't discover for sure if it is permissible to use the pass for travel throughout southern England that doesn't involve just day trips out of London. I will be traveling around the Canterbury area and the Stratford-Upon-Avon area prior to arriving for a week in London.

I thought I would see if anyone on this forum knows.

And it does cover all trains in SE England - not just day trips

for example all trains in Kent are covered for Canterbury area

some places like Bath and Stratford are covered but they are special exemptions because they are popular day trips that would normally be outside the coverage of the London Plus pass

But all trains within a wide range of London are covered but in the Stratford area only trains to the south are covered - not to the north (because Stratford is a bump out of the normal coverage area) - places like Warwick and Leamington Spa i think are covered.

and with the pass you also get free tickets for the Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airport express trains that can be used outside your 15 day pass validity - anytime it seems - even a year or so.

Good question. My gut reaction is that you can use it from any where in the area covered. I too await a reply.

a few years ago certain train franchises exempted themselves from the London Plus Pass - like all trains out of Paddinton on the GWestern line

but this changed last year so all trains within a 50-60 mile radius of London are covered, including airport expresses which previously were not.

so you can just hop on any train anytime i do believe. Call Byron at the link i gave for budget europe travel above for any definitive answer - he's who i call when i need to clarify something and he's always got the info IME.

You should also investigate the specials some franchises give for a day pass - Network card or some such thing - flanneruk and others are always on about those.

If you find that you will be using Southern Railway's trains a lot, be advised that their DaySave pass costs £10 per adult (4 for £20) and £1 per child. Details at:

I want to thank everyone for their input. Even if Warwick is not covered on the Pass, it is still much less expensive to buy the pass than pay for all my other train journeys.

I would think Warwick would be covered since it's only a few miles from Stratford but if it's just a short cheap train ride and if covered it may not be worth it to use one of your 7 days- unless you were not going to use them all anyway.
