Hi all, I'd be extremely grateful if you could help me out with this. I've searched old forum threads and gone on Google, but I've found conflicting answers everywhere.

I have an upcoming Europe trip in late February which starts with me flying into CDG at 6 in the morning. After landing, I was thinking of getting a Mobilis pass for Zones 1-5 at the RER station in CDG, then using that pass to take the RER to the city.

However, I've seen many posts that say you won't be able to use a Mobilis pass to get from Paris to CDG, even if you bought it for Zones 1-5. Is this true for the reverse? I've seen kerouac say in another thread that it IS possible to use the Mobilis to get to and from CDG, but I was just afraid I might have misunderstood him/the thread.

The reason why I want to buy a Mobilis instead of getting a single RER ticket from CDG to Paris is because I'll be using the metro/RER extensively for that very same day (provided jet lag doesn't get me) as it may be too cold for me to walk everywhere (depending on the weather.)

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to use the Mobilis in this way (in the same way that you can travel to Disneyland Paris with no problem using that same Mobilis). I have a Navigo, though, so haven't personally done this. Perhaps wait and see if others come along who have done it?

The reason is just because it doesn't cover that route, that's all, it isn't the same ticket as the Navigo and never has been (even when the Navigo was a Carte Orange, they just have different limitations). The Mobilis has limitations and RATP says it doesn't cover the RER to the airport, that's all I know. If they've changed that, their website still says you cannot, eg this the description of coverage on the RATP website for the Mobilis

If kerouac sid something else, I don't know why RATP would have that on their website unless they very recently changed it. What post did kerouac say you could use the Mobilis for CDG?

I don't understand why you just can't buy an RER ticket into Paris from the airport if that's what you want. Then get a carnet of tickets for the rest of your trip.

Where on earth would you be planning to go on your first day in Paris after an overnight flight that you'd be needing to use the RER (not to mention the métro) "extensively?"

StCirq, I'm not sure exactly what I said or did to be on the receiving end of such brusque language from you. I've seen your other posts and while your 'tone' is generally brusque, you have been nicer to people who seem to have done zero research on their own. I did my due diligence and I definitely do not deserve the tone in your answer.

Of course Mobilis has zone 5 , you can buy lots of tickets with that zone in it. Mobilis isn't some defined ticket that only covers certain zones,you buy the zones you want just like for the Navigo, so if you buy one with zone 5, it covers it, but it's a lot more expensive (about 15.6 ) than buying one only for zones 1-2 (6.6 euro). You aren't going to be saving anything, anyway, as the ticket for the RER from CDG is about 9.25 euro, and add that to 6.6 and you end up with the same price.

I read that post and I would interpret that for what Kerouac said, also, but even though he lives in Paris, he is not actually omniscient and he may just not know or ever use the Mobilis with 5 zones. I doubt if he does as if he lives there, he would have the Navigo. I would believe RATP and what they say on their own website. If you can't read that French, it clearly says the Mobilis does not cover any form of transportation going to the airports (Orly or CDG), except the buses no. 350 and 351. It doen't cover Orlyval, or the RER to either or the Roissybus or Orlybus (special airport buses into Paris).

I doubt you'll be using the metro/RER "extensively" that very same day.

Most take it easy day of arrival, explore the neighborhood noting location of cafes, restos, patisseries, pharmacie, etc., and take care of errands like purchasing the best transit pass(es) for their visit.

One way ticket from CDG on RER/metro costs 9,50.

A carnet of t+ tickets, 13,30, would be the better bet anyway.

Zone 1-5 Mobilis 15,65.

So, a point-to-point ticket plus a carnet is the better bet, anyway, unless you'd ride more than 4 times after the airport trip day of arrival.

You may not want to venture too far from where you're staying day of arrival, as you just never know when jet lag will kick in and your legs turn to noodles. If that happens, it's good to know how to use the buses, rather than climbs those metro/RER stairs.

I realize it's too late for you now, but for anyone finding this in the future, here is a more concise answer: Although the Mobilis is technically supposed to work for any metro or RER line in the zones you select, the airports are special exceptions and require specific tickets.

The cheapest option for you is to buy an RER ticket from CDG to Parc des Expositions, which is the RER stop just outside the airport. This ticket will run you around 4 Euro. Once at Parc des Expositions, buy a Zone 1-4 Mobilis pass for about 11 Euro and use that the rest of your day in Paris, which will work on the Metro and RER lines within the city. That's a total of about 15 Euro.

The more convenient option is to just buy a regular RER ticket from CDG to Paris for 9.50 Euro and then once you've settled in at your hotel buy a Mobilis pass for Zones 1-2 for 6.30 Euro, for a total of about 16 Euro.

However if you're going to take less than five Metro rides within the city (not including your ride from the airport), it's cheaper to buy individual tickets, especially carnet tickets. Personally I like to go with the Mobilis because it's inexpensive, easy, and I don't end up with leftover carnet cards at the end of my trip. Hope that helps!
