Using Firefox with Fodors
Has anyone figured out a way to use Firefox to alter that bilious green header on Travel Talk Home? I tried to do something about it in IE and Opera 6, but to no avail.
|
Well, I minimized the effect a little by changing the background color. Now I just have to find a background color I like. Some of that pond green is still there, but less of it.

This conversation between Bob and Bob reminds me of my favorite single-panel cartoon which features a lone man on a one-palm-tree isle, asking himself "Hey, Bob, you've been here a while; how do you keep from going stir crazy?"
|
How do I keep from going stir crazy? Easy. I talk to myself.
Actually, I kept on fiddling with the colors on Firefox and found that could do some alteration with the background colors, but there remains a stubborn spot along the top on the first screen. Actually, I decided to amend my original posting in hopes that I could preclude responses unless the responder knew more than I did. Quite a few contributors here like to think of themselves as omniscent. Others are interestingly chatty. |
Omniscient?! Oh, my.
Actually, we're all ignorant, as Yogi says, just about different things. |
Unless you are able to talk to yourself.
Ask a question, then answer it yourself. That'll make you omniscent for sure. :) Sorry, bob, but I haven't the foggiest notion of what you are trying to do. |
There was a discussion about the sea sick green banner at the top of the Fodors Talk home page. There were quite a few postings and the thread ran for a while with various insults being hurled at Fodors editors for putting that horrid green on the screen.
Our complaints, growls, grumbles, and bitchings did no good. I decided to see if Mozilla's new product, the Firefox Browser would enable me to alter the colors on the screen. I had partial success, and I was hoping that someone had deduced a way that Firefox could help change the whole screen to colors of one's own choice. If you don't know what Firefox is, then some of this discussion is out of range. To give a quick answer, Mozilla Inc. has put on the web for free a new web browser known as Firefox. It is touted by the experts as being the best thing since sliced bread and the popup toaster. In fact, I am using it right now. It does have some interesting options, including a seemingly effective pop up blocker. I have not used it enough to discover all of its features, but what I have seen so far, I like. I keep a couple of browsers on my computer and swap about periodically to see if one has any advantage over the others. So far, the jury is still out. |
The best thing about Firefox is that because it's not nearly as widely used as Explorer, hackers have not exploited any security problems that might be in it. So if you use Firefox to search, the odds that you will inadvertently download something you don't want are virtually nil. We run a server here and my programmer husband is very concerned about such things, so it's Firefox for me! But I do like it and haven't had any problems.

Too bad it can't do anything about the posts themselves.

Hi bob
I'm usuing Firefox myself, when I set up my new computer a couple of weeks ago my computer advisor (geek) suggested it as being less vulnerable to nasty web things. Howver, I have no idea/haven't yet tried to explore options like colors and such, and would be glad to read how to approach this. |
Like Bob Brown I keep several browsers handy. Fodor's seems to work with the least trouble on Firefox. |
Screen colors can be modified with the option item under tools. It cleaned out most of the green. But Firefox will not change the colors of inages. The "destinations," "hotels," etc. links are images and there is no way your browser can modify them. |
I un-did my color modification to Firefox because it makes all sites look so bland, "vanilla" I guess is the word. I'll suffer with Fodor's slime green just to be able to see colors on other sites. |
Don't look now, Bob, but hopscotch has replaced you as the lone islander...
|
Firefox is new, edition 1.0.
I am sure 1.1 is coming out soon. I fiddled with the color control, and found that everything was changed. But the change is simple and with the feature for opening new windows, one click on a Fodors specialty window and I can see less of the green. I need to poke around on Opera 6.x more too. It has some neat features. At any rate, IE now has some competition. |
Hi bob and bob,
I am chatty not omniscent but I do try to keep it entertaining, although Firefoxes has me stumped. But being chatty and all, I did top this for you..((F)) I like the joke, fehgeddaboudit :D |
