Has anyone booked a car rental thru Auto Europe using a site other than the US site (if u live in the US). I am thinking of booking on the Auto Europe other than the USA site? Prices are much cheaper on these sites. For example, the US site quotes $665 for a rental. The rental price using the GB site is the equivalent of $500, the Europe site is the equivalent of $469 & the Italian site the equivalent of $420. I can take the booking thru to the end checking I am a US citizen and putting in my correct address and appear to be able to book. I am hesitant to use the Italian site since I don't read Italian. Any experience booking thru the foreign sites?

You can actually call Auto Europe and ask them for the less expensive Italian option, if it is available.

When I last rented from AutoEurope, the Canadian rate was the lowest. I just called their main number, and asked for the Canadian rate.

It's all in the details.

The $665 price may be the price no deductible. Autoeurope has a three tiered price structure, of which only the two lower prices appear on the rental page.

My impression is that the French Autoeurope site has a daily mileage limitation, a deductible, and no opportunity to decline the CDW (not possible anyway in Italy) to be carried by the renter's credit card. It might also have a one-way fee which would be added after the car is returned--this depends on the actual rental agency, as Autoeurope is only a broker.

I believe that the highest pricing is an option when you choose to have no deductible. The "inclusive" has a deductible.

Just watch out if you book on a site that is a country other than your residence. It's up to the car company whether to accept a reservation when there's a situation like an American booking on an Italian site or a Canadian on an American site. Sometimes they let it slide, but just to be safe you should definitely call Auto Europe and get the reservation switched to your home country. Even though they have an Italian site, I know they're a US company and will speak in english. I think a lot of companies only offer rates in Italy with inclusive insurances because the chance of theft and damage is very high there.

hmmm- haven't check with AE via the phone yet, but I clearly checked the box that stated I was a US resident and gave my address as such. Cassie, have u had an experience where your rental was refused?

I didn't mean that you should go with the Canadian rates - I checked all of AutoEurope's different country's rates, and that was the cheapest at that time, for the location and time frame that I needed.

I did call them, however (I think I always call to finalize AutoEurope reservations), just to make sure I was doing everything correctly, and that I would be getting the Canadian rates.

Hey yestravel- I wasn't denied per se, they were very helpful in getting the paperwork and voucher switched around. It's funny really, still had the same car waiting for me, just paid in American dollars instead.

What do you mean by "getting the voucher switched around" and "paid in American dollars instead?" You actually handed over dollars in cash to them? I've rented hundreds of cars in Europe, always paid with a credit card, and was always charged exactly what I was quoted by Auto Europe and what was shown on the voucher (in dollars, but of course the European affiliate was paid in the European currency), whether I ordered the card through the American site or through one of their other country sites. Any time you rent through AutoEurope or Kemwel or any other American broker, or through an American company like Hertz or Avis, you end up paying in dollars if it's charged to your credit card.
And why is it funny that they still had the same car waiting for you?

Did you take your trip yet and how did the rental car work out? I just booked a car yesterday on AutoEurope's italian website due to the price difference, and gave my home address in the US, paid with a CC etc. I got a voucher emailed to me. I want to make sure I don't have any problems when I get to the Thrify counter at Rome airport. Did you end up calling AutoEurope's US office and ask for confirmation or have the voucher switched or something? I was quoted a price in Euro's.

Our trip is not until September and I have not talked with Auto Europe US. I have the voucher in euros and it was charged to my credit card. I did do a second rate check recently on the various sites and at that time Auto Europe Italy was only offering cars that did NOT include mileage. Our rental car is with Europcar (thru AE). At some point I will likely touch base with AE USA & will post back when I do. If you do so, please post back

I rented with AE.it several times and there are at least 2 other threads here about this topic. You can also ask AE in the US to match the price you find in their Italian site.
