Useful Phone #'s while traveling
 

Hi all,

I found this in my local paper today and thought it may be useful to anyone traveling.
The site lists the phone #'s of Visa, MC, etc. to cancel or report a stolen card in 59 countries.

Find out in advance from your card issuer how and where a replacement card can be sent. Some companies in the past would send new cards only to the cardholder's home address.

I always ask for the most up-to-date numbers when I inform my CC/debit card issuers that I will be using the cards in Europe.

The European toll free numbers are godsend. My Visa charge was denied and I had to make a call to Visa. I used the Italian Visa toll free number from my hotel room at no charge. The European Visa support told me to contact my bank, but I requested that Visa transfer the call to my bank, and they did. I ended up being on the line for more than 30 minutes with my bank until the fraud block was removed. I paid €0.00 for this long call. No charge of any sort on my hotel bill.

Be careful. Some hotels surcharge all calls, including toll-free numbers.

Great, but doesn't include my card issuer, Citibank!

Not sure if all banks offer this, but Chase will give you a number to call collect from overseas in case of problems while traveling abroad.

I don't trust so called collect numbers. When an European operator called one of these numbers, I could hear "press 1 for this.." The operator then told me my call was not accepted, and that was the end.

I go with other ways to call my bank: skype out, country specific international phone card, and a local toll free number.
