Use of GPS for European Roads.....PRICELESS!
Just back from travel and driving vacation in Europe. Took the TOMTOM GPS with European module. AMAZING, WORTH EVERY PENNY!!

I do believe you and I suspect that the use of a GPS would have saved DH and I from some frustration in the back hills of Umbria and Puglia over the years. But I can't help but feel it takes some of the romance out of travel, too.
Something about poring over maps months in advance, stopping by the side of the road to double-check that if you go this way, you can see that town after all and then connect back up...don't you lose some of the spontaneity? |
Totally agree Viajero2! We had to buy a map of the UK whilst in London and this totally saved our backsides travelling around the UK.
I had large road maps but and a BIG but, when it comes to the "roundabouts" we would never have made it! |
We used the GPS and I don't feel I missed a thing and actually gain SO MUCH MORE ENJOYMENT out of knowing you are heading the right way without straining yourself in the process.

Gotta' agree. I was a skeptic. My DH paid lots of money a year or so ago for a GPS; but we've taken it to Europe twice now, and it really is nice to have.
ALTHOUGH... when driving into Amsterdam, DH refused to head the directions on the GPS because he "already knew the way"... lol Other than that, it was nice to have it. (smile) Carol |
