USair regulations
Usair just told me on the phone (after a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng wait while she checked) that I can bring an "unlimited amount of baby formula AND unlimited amount of baby food in glass jars). I have read otherwise. Anyone with experience on this?

US Air does not operate the security station; that's TSA's job.
If you are talking about stuff purchased after security, then believe USAir. If you are asking what you'll be allowed to bring from home and take through security, you need to rely on what TSA says. |
Sorry. Yes, I realize that it's a TSA question. i just decided, however, to call the airline to inquire. While US Air did not talk about the "reasonable quantity", I guess I have to imagine that for myself, keeping in mind I am traveling from upstate NY to Italy and I want to bring enough to include any delays. She told me about purchasing water after security, but why wouldn't I just get that to mix formula with on the plane?

From the TSA website:
Medications, baby formula and food, breast milk, and juice are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint. |
thanks so much

I worked as a TSA Officer and here's what we'd do: The baby food is ok. Keep in mind that it must be for the BABY. It's really got to be baby food, in a baby food jar, e.g., Gerbers. You cannot bring water, even if it's for the formula. You will need to MIX the formula with the water prior to going through Security. Don't bring any juices unless they are clearly intended for the baby. If it's something an adult could/would also drink, it's not going to make it through Security ... for example: Welch's Grape Juice -- NO. Here's something I recommend: bring empty water bottles and fill them up when you get past Security. Use the tap water or ask someone in a restaurant/bar/lounge to fill it with water. Then, you can take as much water on board as you desire, without paying $2.00 or $3.00 for a bottle of water. Hope this helps.

Very helpful. Thank you. Yes. I have Gerbers in the jar baby food. No mistaking it for anything I would eat! I like my peas unmashed!
