Can I take a bottle of U.S. wine into Germany? I want to take it to one of our exchange students who lives in Prague. I thought he would enjoy some of ourlocal wine.

Yes of course you can. But if he lives in Prague, you'll find Tesco's got a reasonable American wine range anyway.

You can, but remember that you have to pack it in your checked luggage. There are some styrofoam inserts just for this purpose if you can find them. Or put it in a large ziplock and wrap in bubble wrap. A lot of trouble, frankly- and wine is so much cheaper in Europe. Don't you have some other local products you could take?

I think this sounds like a great idea, especially if you are from Northern California.

Thank you. We are flying into Germany and traveling to see him in Prague. I know when he went back home, he said he would have liked to take some wine, but didn't have room.

I'm not quite sure if the amount of wine you may bring into Germany without paying duties has been of any concern for you, but I guess it can't hurt to know the limits:
2 liters of wine per person (17 or older) entering the country.

We have friends in Germany and I checked a styrofoam shipper containing 6 bottles on an AA flight from DFW-FRA in April. No problems departing or arriving. Since CA wine is very expensive in Europe, our friends were thrilled with the gesture. And, we filled the shipper with German wine and checked it on the return.

I don´t know where you have looked, but you get Californian wine at any Aldi store for 3-4 Euro. OK, the quality of these particular wines can be disputed.

Save yourself the hassle, buy your Californian wine in any larger German supermarket and pretend... Believe me, it's available everywhere, at least the big brands.

Most of the California wine I've seen in the UK is stuff I wouldn't buy here in CA. The selection improves all the time, but the best stuff is here, not overseas.

Sure its cheap in Europe if you want to drink Gallo!! Bring a good California Zin.....its not found in Europe and will be a big hit.
