Flying Montreal to CDG on 9/11. Not changing.
Worried about bringing a CPAP on board though.

Yeah, I don't want to bring my iPod, for fear it might be stolen (after all, we can't lock checked baggage anymore). What a hassle for many of us.

Still, I don't leave for a month, and I wonder how the restrictions might ease before then. As a planner, I will just plan differently, and adapt.

we are still going on our honeymoon, leaving in 2 days on saturday the 12. As people mentioned, it is prob. safer to fly now as security has tightened up again.

Um, if this represents a "win," what would you call blowing a couple thousand people out of the sky?

We have a trip planned for Italy in October and we intend to go. I hate airports anyway and always expect the worse, I'm usually not disappointed.

Everytime there is an incident, there is the same discussion.

Each of us with travel plans needs to evaluate our own comfort level. After 9/11/01, I thought I would never fly again. Of course, I did fly again, but it took a bit before I was comfortable doing so.

Do I think about terrorists when I am flying? After 9/11/01, you bet I do. I would venture to guess that everyone does. Airports have more security and you look at your "neighbors" on the plane with more scrutiny.

That having been said each of us has his own comfortable. Discussion about terrorists "winning" if you stay home is nonsense. Flying has nothing to do with "winning" or "losing". It has everything to do with whether you will feel comfortable doing so.

Whether to go, reschedule or cancel altogether is a personal decision based on your personal comfort level. It is not one amenable to resolution by taking a poll of people who have posted on this thread to once again discuss the bogus issue of terrorists "winning" if you do not go on your vacation.

Again, each person must make his own decision based on his own personal comfort level--and definitely not based on a lot of the irrelevant remarks on this thread.

Robespierre - why do you always have to be so caustic, and a know it all, in your remarks. When I said "once again they have won", they have when you think about the inconvenience everyone has to go through now (which I would rather be safe than sorry) and for those who now are so afraid to fly. It took so many people years to get over the fear of flying after 9/11. Of course it would be worse had the plot been carried out, anyone knows that.

We leave for Scotland two weeks from today. I am hoping there are some relaxed rules by then, but if not, all we can do is follow the rules and be glad to get their safely. I thought as I read the 103 postings that I would be ok with carry-ons because we are actually traveling into Amsterdam but as I read on it says 'into GB or connections through to GB', so no luck there. I agree with two previous posters who said you have to be comfortable and have some level of trust, and I certainly agree this has nothing to do with winning and losing. That makes it way to personal for me and I refuse to allow it to become personal. I think using the same words 'winning and losing' for football games or terrorists just doesn't apply. For everyone leaving in the next month or two, have a safe and happy holiday!

I'm travelling 9/1 and will not change my plans. I am travelling from and to New York and to change my plans now...well I might as well pull the shades and hide under the covers. For all that would do....Chin up and keep trucking...

I'm with Robespierre on this one. To spell it out: had it been the terrorists' goal simply to inconvenience travellers then yes, this situation would be a win. But their alleged goal was to blow up aircraft, not get caught and cause inconvenience. In this they have been frustrated, and if found guilty will moulder in jail for a long time. In my language that's a loss.

You can lock your checked luggage with TSA-approved locks.

We just returned from a month plus flying into Geneva and going by train to Paris, Amsterdam,Zermatt and flying from Geneva to Stockholm. We had no hassles what-so-ever within the European community.(I include Sweden in that group too). We actually were moved very quickly at Gatwick on our return (7/22). It just convinces me that if it is your turn to go, who has any control? Anxiety and paranoia only takes away from a lovely holiday. On the other hand, I feel like we timed everything right under the wire. What is this going to do to the kiosk trade within airports? We did a bit of serious shopping at Gatwick and would not have been allowed to keep any of it with the current rules. It will be curious to see how this evolves...but I am glad this was all outed BEFORE the fact. It does not make me want to stop traveling, but it does make me worry about my daughter who travels internationally for her job.

I am afraid I was too judgemental when I talked about the other risks in life. A dear friend just told me that they have canceled their trip to Italy because of the terrorist threat. I feel so badly for them because they were so looking forward to the trip and deserved it after having a truly terrible year. They just weren't comfortable traveling at this time. It is a personal decision and one I respect.

Why is an object less dangerous in the hold than the cabin, I can't help but wonder? Not that I really want to dwell on it during those long bookless hrs over the Atlantic.
