You know, the trip my sister and I are taking to Paris on 9/1 is still a go. I spent too much time invested in getting airline tickets at a good price, finding a good hotel with reasonable rates, and planning out what we should do while there. Back in September of 2001 a friend and I were to have left from DFW to LGW on our way to Athens. That was to have happened on 9/14. Despite the terrorist actions on 9/11, I was still revved up to go on my trip on 9/14. I'm thankful that the evil doers were thwarted in their plan. It's a shame that travellers are now being restricted to what they can carry on - which leads me to ask this question: where in Paris might I be able to buy saline solution? I don't like wearing my glasses, so the sooner I can get my contacts in the better. Also, I *HAD* thought of buying some wine while there, but now I'm not sure. I'm going to be traveling with a big backpack (and will have a duffle bag of sorts crammed in there to cart back stuff), so if I do bring wine back, what steps should I take to prevent the bottles from breaking?

Pack the saline in your backpack and check it. You can buy bubble wrap or take some from home or just wrap the bottles in tshirts, you can also get styrofoam shells for the bottles. have a nice trip

I just flew out of London hours before the foiled plot was announced and my daughter is planing to travel abroad in a few days. We are not changing her plans, she is still going. As would I, if I had another trip scheduled.

One thing I would suggest to everyone is to be sure they get travel insurance that has terrorist coverage. That way, should anything happen to disrupt their trip they would be able to pay for unexpected hotel rooms and expenses and even air tickets. Had I been scheduled to leave twelve hours later, I would have been stranded in London and needed it. I had not bought it, but have for my daughter.

This was a great example of how solid police and intelligence work and a tip from someone close to the plotters foils terrorist plots--not dropping bombs on and occupying countries or placing ridiculous restrictions on what we can bring onto planes.

SeaUrchin - thanks for the reply! and a huge "duh" on my part. It didn't even cross my mind to just put the saline in my huge backpack - whenever I fly, I have the saline in my small backpack so I can take my contacts out to sleep. Good thing I also book my Eurostar tickets way in advance as well.
