US Travel Agents specializing in Germany

Would appreciate any information possible on US travel agents specializing in Germany. Am trying to get a cheap round trip Boston-Frankfurt leaving December and returning early January. I'm always impressed by the wonderful attitude of contributors to this forum - thank you!

Some fifty years ago, or more, German Rail founded DER, a travel agency, and it is active in the USA. The web address is http://www.der.com/, and you can put your question to them on [email protected]/.

But there are other websites good for cheap planes from New England to Frankfurt, and I hope other Fodors readers will help you.

What's wonderful ? You ask a question, we try to answer it. It's the old American frontier tradition of a good neighbour, except that now we neighbours may be two thousand miles away. And since 11 September there's something else. We Britons owe the New York fire fighters and police a huge debt. I think there were about 500 of us in the building.

So, please write if I can help further.

I live in the MD suburbs, and I can tell you that the best deal on tickets to Germany this summer were via International Travel Consultants in Rockville, MD. Ask for Mary or Gabriele (?), the owner. They beat any price I could come up with extensive Internet searches, consolidators, etc.
They do have an 800 number . If you can't find it, post again, and I'll find it. They specialize in travel to Germany, and I've used them several times (as has my friend).

In May I went from Baltimore to Frankfurt and back for only $342 on US Airways. You don't need a travel agent to get cheap tickets. Just check the airlines' web sites.

Just called International Travel Consultants. If you go before 12/13, a round trip ticket from Boston to Frankfurt (non-stop) will cost you 368.00 plus about 76.00 tax.
Their phone no. is 1-800-466-4660.
Good luck!

Just as a bit of information, DER has been "spun" off and is now independent of the German Rail, but still is a specialist in German and European travel.

Try tiss.com, a German based consolidator that usually has the best airfares to central Europe.

Hi Doug:
Thank you for this web site; I just found a great rate for a flight to Manchester (New Hampshire, not UK). Thanks!

you can find the cheapest fare through travelocity or expedia. the trick is to know how to do it. the following always worked for me and the price i always get is better than any agent could get.

go to travelocity, sign up for email alerts where you can specify your destination (up to 5 i think). once done, you can see the fare schedule. if you click on one of them you will be given a list of dates for which tickets are available at that price.
expedia also has something similar but you have to do search manually.
what is interesting, once you play around with times "late/early morning/evening" you can get a very good fare. usually expedia works best in this regard.
if you spend about an hour on these two sites you'll get the best price.
