US passports to add ID microchip

News item says that by mid-2005 US passports will add a microchip containing personal ID information (including a photo). Check it out at http://www.jewishworldreview.com/1104/passport_chip.asp.

There's more in most newspapers about this development. Seems a lot of people feel this might be an invasion of their privacy. I can't imagine what the ACLU types will invent next as a pretext to prevent us from keeping track of the good guys and keeping out the bad guys.

Agreed, Wayne. I am a strict supporter of our constitution. But I'll gladly give up some of my privacy to prevent another 9-11. We are living in and traveling in another world now. International law and decency is out the window.

Cheers,

Jinx

Having microchips in our passports woudln't have prevented 911.

I agree that it wouldn't have prevented 9/11, but if a microchip helps to deter it from happening again, then I'm OK with it. This is an interesting article, thanks Jinx.
