US newspapers in Paris

I know we've purchased the New York Times (one day late) at WH Smith but wondered if anyone knows if Village Voice carries either the NY Times or IHT.

Every newstand in paris carries IHT

I realize IHT is readily available. I was mostly curious about NY Times at Village Voice and should have said so.

The days of having to search for newspapers is long since over...

Seek how any internet cafe...

www.nytimes.com (free)

www.villagevoice.com (free)

Every morning, I devote about an hour to reading the NY newspapers, checking my e-mail and checking my finances (bank accounts etc) at an internet cafe.

Only problem is the time difference. Generally by 9 AM in the morning Paris time, the NY Times is up. The NY Post used to hit the internet at 4 AM NY time which is 10 AM in Paris but is now up earlier. The NY Daily News hits the internet at 4:30 NY times which is 10:30 in Paris. As Paris is not really an early morning town, it's usually not a big deal.

Thanks. We do read it on the net at times but it's the paper version I'm seeking out. I want to read the paper on our patio and at my leisure, not at a computer screen!

The International Herald Tribune and the USA Today are the only 2 papers I see on a regular basis throughout continental Europe. There are sometimes other papers, but they are usually several days old.

I'm not positive because I haven't paid particular attention to that and never wanted to buy the NY Times in Paris.. but I don't think Village Voice carries special-demand international papers like that. I imagine the demand for such a thing is pretty low now with the internet and because the same company owns the NY Times and the IHT and they have some of the same articles. It's just not worth it to pay for air-freighting the NYT across the Atlantic. The only places I know that do this (or used to) are the English-language bookstores on the Right Bank such as WH Smith or Brentanos. Even there, they don't have it every day--I think only the Sunday edition.

We were able to the NY Times every day at WH Smith but this trip we are staying closer to Village Voice so I was hoping they would have it also. (Actually there was a day or two during our 3 weeks stay where the paper didnt' arrive but basically they carried it every day.)

Hi Sherry,
I live in Switzerland, and the NY Times is scanned and emailed to a printer here where it is put on certain news stands at about 11 am.

It is however a printed version, in small type, on regular A4 paper. A bit difficult to read. It is also about $10 a copy.

With Paris being a much bigger city, I am sure the NY Times is available there to on a similar basis.

Have never seen the Village Voice in newstands anywhere in Europe.

I empathize, Sherry! We try to book a room or apartment with a patio or balcony partly as a place to read the paper and quietly enjoy being in whatever city we are. The easiest way to answer your questions may be to email Village Voice at: [email protected]

I can't say I have ever seen the village voice over here but I see a small crummy version of USA today in Dublin and the times a day late. Go to a newsagent in a tourist area and you should have more luck.

The Village Voice is a book shop in the 6th..I think that is what she is refering to, not the Village Voice newspaper.

> I was mostly curious about NY Times at Village Voice ...

A friend of mine living in Paris asked the above particular question at Village Voice at Rue Princess. No they don't have NY Times (exept they do get the Sunday Edtion "Littéraire", he was told). Also they don't have IHT. Village Voice is a book store and for the news papers, you have to go to kiosks.

Thanks so much for asking your friend. I had e-mailed the Village Vocie bokostore and, to my disappointment, gotten no response to the e-mail. I guess I'll just use it as a reason for a walk and go to WH Smith.
